Boston Marathon Training- Weeks 17 and 18

One Week to Go! Not sure how that happened, but my family and I are jumping onto a plane on FRIDAY to head to New England. Things are getting really, real. Like so real I can almost taste that first sip of Sam Adams after I cross the finish line.  Here’s how the last two weeks of training went:

Week 17 March 31st– April 6th

  • Monday-10 miles over the Palm Valley Bridge at 7:47 pace
  • Tuesday- 5 miles at 8:16  pace
  • Wednesday- 3.86 miles (10 min warm up, 3 x 5 min (7:20, 7:20, 6:55) 5 min cool down)
  • Thursday- 5 miles at 8:37 pace pushing Jesse in the stroller
  • Friday-12 miles at 8:47 pace
  • Saturday-off (took the kids to the beach and Summer had a soccer game. Too much to try to squeeze in the run today. Decided to push it to Sunday.)
  • Sunday- 4 miles at 7:26 pace (7:32, 7:32, 7:23, 7:15)

Week Total- 39.86

Week 18 April 7th– 13th

  • Monday- 4 miles at 8:20 pace- having some hamstring/it band pain. Got a sports massage today to try to help. Been rolling and stretching.
  • Tuesday-  4 miles at 8:21 pace
  • Wednesday- 6.5 on the Palm Valley Bridge at 8:02 pace
  • Thursday- 4 miles at 8:03 pace
  • Friday-3.1 at 8:35 pace
  • Saturday- 4 miles at 8:36 pace
  • Sunday- off (took the day completely off. Hoping my hamstring pain will magically go away)

Week Total-25.6 (miles are going down, but my appetite remains lol)

I’ve been putting various items aside in a corner in my room for weeks that I think I’ll need for the trip. I’ll be making a packing list and sharing it here when I’m done packing. All the advice I have read centers on packing for all types of weather because Boston weather is characteristically unpredictable. I have fallen into the habit of checking the weather forecast multiple times a day. So far the weather is looking pleasant despite it snowing last week!  I’m trying to keep a positive perspective no matter how the weather turns out. If it’s hot, well, I’m used to that. That shouldn’t be a problem since I’ve done almost every single training run in Florida and most of these runs were miserably hot. If the weather is cold, well, that will be a nice change, right? That will make me run even faster! If it snows or rains, not going there.

I’ll be posting race updates soon! Make sure to check back!
